WHAT IS IT:
The intramural competition is a team-oriented
powerlifting event with the focal point of the competition being performance of
the team as a whole. We are seeking to
bring together in competition and camaraderie all the teams in the country,
whether they be established powerhouses like Westside Barbell or new clubs such
as Tampa Barbell.
HOW DOES IT WORK:
A team may enter as many participants as they
wish. However, there is a minimum of 3
lifters required to field a team. If
all teams entering the competition have more competitors, we will take the next maximum a team can
field. So, if all clubs had 5 or more
lifters, we will use 5 from each team.
While there are weight classes for the purpose of
individual records, the team title is
NOT based on weight class.
SCORING:
Scores are normalized by coefficient. We will be using Schwartz. Females will have an additional modifier to
further normalize them against their male counterparts.
There is a 100 point bonus for each team entry
over 3, up to a maximum of 400 points.
There is a 100 point penalty for any team member
who bombs.
Winning team is determined by taking the top 3
scores (if all teams have 5, we will take top 5), adding them together,
applying bonuses and penalties. The team
with the highest score wins.
For the bench competition, the winner is determined by a normalized
score only. There are no bonuses or
penalties.
QUESTIONS:
Q: Is there a bench only division?
A: There is now a bench division at the present
time. A minimum of 3 lifters will be
required to field a bench team. You may
have your full-power lifters cross over to the bench team if you do not have
enough individual benchers.
Q: Is my team good enough?
A: Although there is a nice prize for the winning
team, the point is to compete as a team
and grow your team. So, if you have
enough lifters, your team IS good enough!
Q: Our best members are preparing for a Pro
meet. Why should they do this one?
A: We hope this is the start of something big
although all things start as small seeds.
If you are a big enough club, consider sending some of your younger
lifters. It will teach them there are
more aspects to the sport than the best total.
Q: I don’t have a team I train with. Can I still enter?
A: Unfortunately, no. Consider contacting a team in your local
area and seeing if you can participate as part of their team. Remember, even if a team is fielding the
minimum number of lifters, you can always add on.
Q: My team is bringing a team of full
powerlifting, but I am a bencher. Can I
participate?
A: Yes.
The requirements for a bench team are also 3 3 lifters. You can take your bench, and add the benches
of two of your best 3-lift guys to determine your team bench score.
Q: We have a big team. Do we get extra credit for fielding more than
3 lifters?
A: Yes.
You will get 100 coefficient points for each lifter past 3 that does not
bomb, up to a total of 400 extra points.
Fielding these extra lifters can certainly put you over the top in a
close race.
